Australian Physiotherapy Association conference 2017, Sydney

Welcome back to another edition of the Palmerston Physiotherapy Clinic blog!

Well the build-up has certainly come in with full effect recently giving a lot of truth to the phrase the sweat season, so it was with some relief when Paul and myself jumped on a plane a couple of weeks ago to fly down to Sydney for the Australian Physiotherapy Association conference.

This conference, which is held every two years, is a showcase of leading research from presenters from across Australia and around the world, and this year’s conference had physios from 30 different countries attending!

There was a full day of pre-conference workshops, with each special interest group within the association having speakers. They discussed a broad array of subject matter which included complex shoulder injury management, physiotherapy specific women’s health care and even how technology can be utilised by treating clinicians to reach a broader cross-section of the community.

Following the pre-conference workshops, the conference properly kicked off with three full days of presentations and demonstrations. These covered numerous diagnostic, treatment and evaluation techniques which demonstrates the continued push for the best possible evidence based practice to ensure the best treatment and outcomes possible for our clients.

Coupled with the full academic schedule there was also quite a full social calendar associated with the conference which allowed for some good networking to occur between clinicians and researchers. It also allowed everyone to let their hair down for a little fun during the hectic conference schedule.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable and interesting four days in Sydney for both Paul and myself. We were very animated in our discussions on the flight back up to Darwin about everything that we had seen during the course of the conference and how we would best pass on all the information to the rest of our colleagues back at the clinic.

As we walked out of the Darwin airport we were hit with that all too familiar humidity which let us know that we were most definitely back in our tropical home and that chilly weather of Sydney was very quickly forgotten about and that it was time to get back to work at the Palmerston Physiotherapy Clinic.

So if you have any physiotherapy needs just jump on the phone and give us a call today!
